Effective April 1, 2009, and consistent with the terms of the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) and the British Columbia/Alberta Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), the College of Psychologists of British Columbia will continue to register registered psychologists and registered psychological associates currently registered in another jurisdiction in Canada in accordance with the provisions of these Agreements.
Application forms, FAQs and information about the application process are available on these pages. Please contact the College for any further information in writing.
The Registration Committee of the College of Psychologists of British Columbia invites individuals fully licensed as registrants of a Canadian psychology regulatory body, but whose main residence appears to be in British Columbia, to apply for registration in BC as reciprocal applicants. The intent of this policy is to ensure that individuals who would have been eligible for reciprocal application but were not aware of the requirement to be actively practicing in their home jurisdiction prior to applying for registration in BC are given the opportunity to make an application. This policy will apply to Reciprocal applications received at the College by June 30, 2009.
EXAMINATION SCHEDULES AND SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS
After you are notified that your documentation is in order you will be invited to register for the appropriate series of examinations and workshops. The dates of exams and workshops are published yearly and can be reviewed here: Examination and Workshop Schedule - 2010. Note that the CPBC Code of Conduct-2009 has recently been updated. While either version may be used to prepare for the Written Jurisprudence Examination, applicants and registrants are expected to be in compliance with the updated version.
SUPERVISION OF APPLICANTS
Consistent with the Code of Conduct and the Psychologists Regulation under the Health Professions Act, the College expects that applicants for registration are supervised by a registrant in their provision of psychological services in British Columbia. The Registration Committee has formalized this expectation and requires all applicants (applying after January 1, 2008) to include a supervision plan in their application if the applicant is providing any psychological services in British Columbia. The requirement is simply for the applicant to provide a supervision plan detailing the applicant-selected supervisor and proposed arrangements. This supervision plan will be reviewed as part of the application review. The supervisor will complete a reference form at the time the applicant completes his or her last exam.
